Folkestone’s unofficial guide to what’s going on.
The Old Post Office, Tontine Street
“Seeing the Crescent: Faith, Time and the Skies Above” — an evening talk and conversation with Cambridge PhD researcher Imad Ahmed and author Cathy Haynes (The Fullness of Time: Marking the Day by Birdsong, Blooms, Shadows and Stars). The event explores how different traditions mark and experience time, linking astronomy, theology, and lived experience—from moon sightings to Stonehenge and the Kaaba. Imad shares insights into Islam, faith, and the lunar calendar, followed by a wider reflection led by Cathy on historical everyday ways of telling time by the sky and living world. Guests are welcome to stay afterwards to eat, chat, and spend time in the newly relaunched Reading Room. Part of the Intersections programme as a First Friday’s event.
