Privacy Policy (the human version)

Last updated: February 2026

Hi 👋
LiveTown helps you discover what’s happening locally. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do (and don’t) do with it.

Short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the app, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t do creepy stuff.

Who runs LiveTown?

LiveTown is run by James Wood, a Folkestone local.

What data we collect (and why)

Account data

When you sign up using an email code or Google, we collect:

  • Your email address
  • Your name (only if provided by Google)

This is needed to:

  • Let you log in and maintain an account

The only other data we collect is the events that you have saved to your account.

Legal basis: performing a contract (i.e. providing the service you asked for)

Emails

Right now, we only send service emails, such as:

  • One-time login codes
  • Account confirmations

In the future, we may send optional newsletters with local events — only if you explicitly opt in. You’ll be able to unsubscribe at any time (one click, no guilt).

Emails are sent via Mailgun.

Legal basis:

  • Service emails: contract
  • Newsletters: consent

Cookies 🍪

We use:

  • Essential cookies – to keep you logged in (no consent needed)
  • No other cookies!

Where your data lives

Your data is stored using:

  • Supabase (database & authentication)
  • Netlify (website hosting)

Some of these services are based outside the UK/EU. Where that’s the case, appropriate safeguards are in place.

Children

LiveTown is family-friendly, but it’s not specifically aimed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.

Ads (the local kind)

There are no tracking ads or ad networks.

In the future, LiveTown may show simple, bespoke ads from local businesses — not behaviour-based, and not creepy.

How long we keep your data

  • Account data: kept while your account exists
  • Deleted accounts: removed immediately when deleted through the website

Your rights (you’ve got plenty)

You can:

  • Access your data
  • Correct it
  • Delete your account (self-serve, no emails required)
  • Withdraw consent for newsletters
  • Complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
