Hi 👋
LiveTown helps you discover what’s happening locally. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do (anddon’t) do with it.
Short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the app, we don’t sell your data, we use basic privacy-focused analytics to improve the site, and optional analytics cookies only run if you say yes.
LiveTown is run by James Wood, a Folkestone local.
When you sign up using an email code or Google, we collect:
This is needed to:
The only other account data we collect is the events that you have saved, your optional category and tag interests, and whether you have opted in to event recommendation emails. The Analytics section below explains the minimal daily visit record we store for signed-in non-admin accounts.
Legal basis: performing a contract (i.e. providing the service you asked for)
We send service emails, such as:
We may also send optional event recommendation emails with local events, only if you explicitly opt in. These can be personalised using the categories and tags you choose in your preferences. You can unsubscribe at any time with the unsubscribe link in the email, or turn them back on later from Preferences.
Emails are sent via Mailgun.
Legal basis:
We use Pirsch analytics to understand aggregate site usage, such as page views and product events like opening an event, copying an event link, saving an event, and signup funnel steps.
Pirsch helps us improve LiveTown and understand which parts of the event browsing experience are useful. We don’t send names, email addresses, account details, claim codes, OTPs, or free-form form content to Pirsch.
We also store random anonymous client and session IDs in Supabase so we can understand aggregate browsing depth, such as how many events are seen during a visit. These IDs are not your account ID and are not used for advertising.
If you are signed in, we store one daily visit record for your account when you open the site. This stores your account ID, the Europe/London calendar date, first seen time, last seen time, and a small touch count. It does not store the pages you viewed.
If you allow analytics cookies, we also use Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use the site. Clarity can collect information such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser details, clicks, scrolling, and anonymised interaction recordings.
We use Clarity to improve LiveTown and fix usability problems. We don’t use Clarity for tracking ads, and we don’t send names, email addresses, or account details to Clarity.
Legal basis: legitimate interests for privacy-focused product analytics and signed-in visit regularity; consent for optional Clarity analytics cookies. You can change your analytics-cookie choice here at any time.
Analytics cookies are currently not set.
We use:
We also use local storage for anonymous analytics client/session IDs, so we can measure aggregate browsing sessions without requiring you to sign in, and a signed-in visit marker to avoid duplicate daily visit writes.
Your data is stored using:
Some of these services are based outside the UK/EU. Where that’s the case, appropriate safeguards are in place.
LiveTown is family-friendly, but it’s not specifically aimed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.
There are no tracking ads or ad networks.
In the future, LiveTown may show simple, bespoke ads from local businesses — not behaviour-based, and not creepy.
