Weekly writing workshop at kollectiv Folkestone for new and returning writers. The group is small, friendly and welcoming, with space for all voices. New writers are welcome each week. Tickets are £5.

Sound Rise: Family Friendly Sound Bath

A family-friendly morning sound bath at Kollectiv featuring gongs, bowls, monochords and voice looping. The session includes a chance to experience the practice, learn more about it and try some of the instruments. Bring a mat, blanket and pillow if you want to lie down. Children are welcome but must be supervised by an adult. Tickets start from £2.

Harmonica Workshop with Katie Bradley

Beginner-friendly blues harmonica workshop led by Katie Bradley at Kolectiv in Folkestone. The session covers basic techniques, note bending, groove and first riffs, and is suitable for complete beginners or anyone wanting to try harmonica. Tickets are £12. Bring a C diatonic harmonica if you have one; attendees can ask for help sourcing one. Booking is essential as places are limited.

Poets Corner Poetry Open Mic

Poetry open mic at kollectiv in Folkestone. Readers can take up to 5 minutes to share poems on any subject, whether original work or by a favourite poet. You can also come along just to listen. Entry is £5 on the door.

Shared Table

A relaxed community coworking-style session where you can bring work, a project or an idea to discuss while spending a couple of hours alongside others. Everyone is welcome.

Graphic Novel Reading Club

Monthly graphic novel book club at kollectiv Folkestone with discussion, optional doodling, and a hot or cold drink. Curated by local illustrators and comics writers Navied Mahdavian and Ben Gore. Upcoming sessions are: 13 August on Making Comics by Lynda Barry; 17 September on Acting Class by Nick Drnaso; 15 October on Bad Gateway by Simon Hanselmann; 19 November on Red Son by Mark Millar; 17 December on Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? / Talking to My Father’s Ghost by Roz Chast and Alex Krokus; 14 January on Black Hole by Charles Burns; 18 February on Diary of a Teenage Girl by Phoebe Gloeckner; and 18 March on Watchmen by Alan Moore. Collage Workshop

A collage-making workshop at kollectiv Folkestone with all materials provided. Tickets are priced from £4, with an adult-and-child ticket at £8 and additional child tickets at £4.

Queer Movement Workshop

A guided queer movement workshop led by Dan Laws for all abilities. The session includes opening and closing group reflections with around 90 minutes of movement in between, focusing on everyday movement, flow and body connection. No dance experience is needed. Wear loose-fitting clothing and suitable footwear. Limited spaces.

Nature-Neighbours Family Workshop

A three-session family workshop using art, music, movement and play to help children explore nature through the perspectives of animals and plants. Aimed at ages 4 to 10, with activities adapted for younger children. Hosted by Natural Resonance. Tickets are £8 for one adult and child, with additional children £4 each.

Space Opera Murder Mystery

A sci-fi murder mystery evening from Dying 2 Know at kollectiv Folkestone. Players work in detective teams of 2 to 6, hearing suspect testimony, examining the crime scene, gathering clues and solving the case over the course of the evening. The event runs for about three hours with short breaks. Solo attendees or pairs may be combined with others into a team. Tickets include a locally made pizza and one drink, with an additional pay-as-you-go bar available. Guests with food allergies are asked to contact max@dying2know.uk in advance. Arrival is from 17:30 for an 18:00 start.

Kollectiv Kids: The Story Workshop

A family-friendly creative story workshop for children aged 6 to 10 at kollectiv. Sessions explore character creation, plot building and storytelling, with time to listen to stories and then write and perform original tales. Entry is £8 for one child with one parent, and £4 for each additional sibling.

Is Folkestone the Birthplace of Television?

Folkestone premiere of Ben Barton’s short documentary exploring whether the first television transmission may have happened in Folkestone rather than Hastings. Presented by kollectiv and Folkestone Film Festival, the screening includes an introduction with archive material on early television, archive footage not seen for more than 70 years, and a live Q&A with the director. Camera, drone and editing are by Alexander Saxby. Rated U. Tickets £8, with free entry for Friends of Kollectiv.

Welcome to the Underground

Barrelstout presents an evening of underground short films from its archive at kollectiv, spanning more than 50 years of work from 1969 to 2025 across Super 8, digital, tape, slide and still-image formats. Presented by Bev Zalcock and Sara Chambers, the programme includes Boy on a Motorbike, Riot! Riot! (We Wanna Riot), Marijuana Moment and Swim Fever, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Doors open at 18:30 and the screening starts at 19:00. Tickets start from £4.80, with general sale and affordable ticket options available.

HUGHMUNGOUS

A drag king comedy cabaret show from Hugh Mann, framed as awkward work drinks and a first-ever one-man show. Drinks start at 6:30pm before the main performance at 7:30pm. Tickets are £5. Hugh Mann is a drag king performer behind shows including Freaky Folkestone, Serving Kent, Sleaze, Gromit!, SLAY BELLS, A Folke’in Drag Contest and Folkestone’s a Drag.

This is My Dad - Jody Kamali

Jody Kamali performs a one-hour solo theatre show about his father’s sudden death, family secrets and grief, mixing thoughtful storytelling with comedy. Suitable for ages 16+. Tickets are £12, with £10 concessions.
